----------------------------------------------------------------- The Security Series Presented by UniForum and Software Forum The Security Series is an informative series of full and half-day seminars designed for those who are new to computer security or just want to learn more about security. This unique series provides a forum for attendees to share experiences and learn more about security from a panel of experts. Tuesday, December 12, 2:00-6:00pm "Confidentiality: What does it mean to your business?" Session Chair: Phillip Moyer, Stanford Research Institute Confidentiality is one of the essential components of any information security policy. How we keep information available for the "good guys" and away from the "bad guys" must be considered in the design and implementation of every information system. When the bad guys are all "out there" on some other net, this can be done with careful use of encryption and firewalls. When only some of the people "inside" the net should be allowed to access particularly sensitive information (e.g., personnel, accounting, advanced planning), appropriate access control policies must be established by upper management and enforced by appropriate components throughout the "inside" net. This paneled session will address the following aspects of confidentiality: * Advances in IP specifications and cryptographic enhancements, SSL and SST, and Internet Commerce * Internal network topology, encrypted file systems, intra-network firewalls * Personal confidentiality and privacy issues, workplace ethics, cyber-rights Thursday, January 11, 2:00pm to 6:00pm "Encryption: Is this the key to data security" Session chair: Dr. Bob Baldwin, RSA Cryptography is essential in the world of security. This session will address the range of different applications that are made possible by cryptography. After a brief overview, a stellar host of panelists will share their expertise and explain how they use this remarkable technology. This will be a great opportunity to ask the experts about what is possible now and in the future.
