Overview:
This intensive two-day workshop is designed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding and hands-on knowledge required to install, configure and administer Linux.

Participants will learn to install, administer, integrate and secure different distributions of Linux (RedHat, Caldera, and Slackware).

About this Series: This intensive, hands-on training provides attendees with a comprehensive review of the Linux essentials; the "how-to" knowledge required to administer and troubleshoot Linux; and the ability to design, build, and debug a Linux driver, in only 5 days!

The series includes the following workshops: Linux Boot Camp (1-Day), Linux System Administration using Red Hat (2-Days), and Introduction to the Linux Kernel and Linux Device Drivers (2- Days).
Prerequisites: Attendees should have practical experience using the Linux operating system.

Linux Boot Camp: This 1-day course presents a comprehensive review of the Linux essential concepts as well as the facilities, services, utilities, and programs. It provides a way to keep up with the changes and the trends in the operating system.
Objectives: Attendees will be able to:

· Navigate the Linux file system
· Utilize the Linux commands
· Process the through commands using pipes and filters
· Configure the shell environment

Linux System Administration using Red Hat: The 2-day course covers the basic administration functions and tasks including installation; user and group administration; filesystem setup; NFS; SAMBA; NIS; Gnome; Xwindows configuration; basic administration tools, backup, and troubleshooting.
Objectives: By the end of the course, attendees will be able to:
- Install Red Had Linux on X86 and non X86 hardware
- Create and maintain the Linux filesystem
- Perform user and group administration
- Setup NFS, NIS, and SMB/Samba
- Configure inetd and X windows
- Configure Gnome
- Perform basic system administration
- Network configuration
- Printer configuration
- Basic troubleshooting messages
- Configure Internet services

Introduction to Linux Kernel and Linux Device Drivers: This 2-day course introduces the attendee on how to design, create, and implement drivers for character devices, block devices for Linux, and it also provides an introduction to the Linux kernel. Prerequisites: Attendees should have practical experience in C programming, UNIX system calls, and understanding of Operating System architecture.
Objectives: By the end of the course, attendees will be able to:
- Design a driver (character, block)
- Build a driver (character, block)
- Build and load modules
- Debug a driver
- Understand portability issues
- Understand timing
- Use memory management and DMA
- Understand the Linux kernel

UniForum Addresses the Critical Demand for Linux Training ----
Announces Linux Device Drivers and Kernel Technical Workshop Series

August 9, 1999 --------San Jose, California ---- UniForum Technology Training Institute, one of the foremost providers of Linux training, announced today their intent to provide the next level of Linux Training: The Linux Intensive Training Series Workshop. As one of the first organizations to provide all distributions of Linux training, UniForum began its Linux training program in the Fall '98.

The Linux Intensive Training Series Workshop scheduled to begin November 15-19, 1999 in San Jose, CA, consists of the following hands-on courses: Linux Boot Camp (1-day), Linux System Administration (2-days), and an Introduction to Linux Device Drivers and the Linux Kernel (2-days).

In five days, attendees will gain a comprehensive understanding of Linux essentials (file systems and commands); the "how-to" knowledge required to administer and troubleshoot Linux; the ability to design, build, and debug a Linux Device Driver; and an understanding of the Linux Kernel.


Learning Linux in Two Days Workshop Continues

UniForum is continuing to present its popular, Learning Linux in Two Days Hands-on Workshop publicly and on-site worldwide. This accelerated hands-on workshop features installing, administering, securing, and integrating five distributions of Linux in only two days.
